Bio

I have been exploring clay for over 25 years, focusing on traditional hand-building methods of coiling and pinching. After graduating from Parsons School of Design, I took a few classes at Greenwich House Pottery in NYC where I discovered clay.  It felt so completely natural to me. Workshops at Anderson Ranch, Peters Valley, and the Taos Art School in New Mexico led me to the Native American approach of “listening to the clay”.  Clay cannot be forced; the form emerges from within, naturally, in my hands.

Travel and study in Japan have also influenced my work.  I have always been attracted to the organic approach of Japanese ceramics marked by its deep respect for the beauty, impermanence and wonder of nature.

The aesthetic sensibility of simplicity and honesty of form rooted in both cultures has shaped what I do.
